Introduced Animals
When white people came to Australia they brought many animals with them. Some animals couldn’t live here and died but others did very well. Unfortunately many of these animals compete against the native animals or are bad for the Australian environment.
Hard hoof animals, like horses, damage the soil and crush the plants. They also crush the homes of birds and mammals that nest on the ground. Cattle and sheep pollute the waterholes and eat the grass that is food for kangaroos.
Some introduced animals, like rabbits, foxes, cats and cane toads, have become pests. They have no natural enemies in Australia and have caused a lot of damage to the environment so many native animals have suffered or even died out.
