Activity 6 - Nuggets Spreadsheet:
Imagine you had ten lucky strikes of medium sized gold nuggets while
gold panning. These nuggets are now displayed on the internet at the following
site:
They are the first 10 nuggets on display. You will notice that each nugget
has a code number eg. M-1, M-2, M-3, etc. This activity will require you
to record some information on a spreadsheet and then complete some calculations.
Activity 6A
-
Open a spreadsheet.
-
In column 1 record the nugget’s code.
-
In column 2 record the nugget’s weight.
-
In column 3 record the nugget’s sale price.
-
Using the spreadsheet functions, calculate the total weight and the total
price for all your nuggets.
|
Activity 6B (optional extension task)
-
31.1 grams = 1 troy ounce
-
We will assume that the price of gold is $277.00/oz
-
Using the ten nuggets recorded in Activity 6A, convert the weight of each
nugget to troy ounces then calculate the real value of each nugget if it
was sold at the gold price mentioned.
-
What is the total value of your nuggets?
